Officer Duties

Below is a list of the requirements to run for an Officer position in PPA and also each Officer’s duties and responsibilities.

If you have questions, feel free to post them below!

Requirements
*50 PPA Points by the end of the semester: need to have AT LEAST 45 points by the elections
*Active Member Status starting from Fall 2009
*Must present a speech at the Officer Elections

President
*Have time to devote to the organization
*Excellent public speaking skills
*Excellent time management skills
Approachable personality
*Devote time over the summer to attend freshmen student orientations and planning for the upcoming year
*Is responsible for contacting and booking guest speakers, such as advisors of pharmacy schools, pharmacists, and other interesting speakers
*Reserves rooms for meetings, sets up meetings, arranges officer meetings, plans for the banquet, orders t-shirts, and plans social events

Vice President
*Helps out with room reservations or contacting guest speakers as needed
*Assumes President’s responsibilities when absent
*Responsible for contacting organizations for volunteering opportunities and confirming it for a valid PPA event
*Must keep very close contact with volunteer organizations, giving them updates about volunteer numbers and what volunteers may be doing.
*Email’s members reminders about the volunteer events
*Updates Google Calendar with Event dates and info
*Sends volunteer event information to webmaster to be posted on website
*Must have great time management and excellent public speaking/ people skills


Treasurer
*Deals with monetary issues – handles membership fees, oversees purchases, decides budget for events, decides how to generate more money for PPA, makes deposits, withdrawls, and reimbursements
*Must make sure money is spent wisely and keep track of account balance
*Handles intramural sports
*Helps out other Officers as needed

Secretary
*Logs volunteer hours for all members
*Takes necessary notes during meetings
*Knows how to use Excel
*Preserves the records of each member that joins PPA
*Must be a patient individual

Historian
*Responsible for taking pictures at the meetings, socials, and volunteer events
*Makes thank you cards
*Helps find out new volunteer opportunities
*Constructs a PPA Carrel Space Tri-Fold and scrapbook/slideshow at the end of the semester*
*Works with the Webmaster to upload pictures
*Uploads pictures to Facebook group

Public Relations
*Keeps members informed about everything going on in PPA
*Makes agendas and fliers for each meeting
*Sends out facebook messeges and e-mail reminders to the members about meetings and events
*Responsible for verifying all the members through phone or email that sign up for projects that they will be able to make it to the event
*Must have good organizational and time management skills as well as good communication skills

Webmaster (President of the website) 8-)
*Maintains and updates the UHPPA website
*Informs other Officers of new technologies that may assist in running the association
*Creates registration forms for each event through Google Docs
*Updates members about upcoming events in a timely manner
*Gives status updates to changes in events or event registration through Twitter
*Controls spam posts in forums
*Must be semi-computer literate – if you can format documents in Microsoft Word and post links in an email or forum, you most likely have the skills to learn to maintain the website.
*Should be familiar with uploading documents/pictures
*Should have excellent written communication skills
*Should be a fast learner

Due to time constraints, we can only have up to five people run for each position

Position.....Running
President: ASHLEY TRAN, ANTHONY VU, and MEGHA PATEL

Vice President: WAN TON WENDY CHEN, PORTIA ANTONIETE
and LIMEI LIANG

Secretary: NANCY PHAN, STEFFI THOMAS, LAWRENCE LEE, and NELLIE DO

Public Relations: ALI MOHAMMED-ALI, RENE BENZUELO,
and QURATULAIN ZULFIQAR

Historian: HANNAH DO, NEGAR ABOONASRSHIRAZ, and
NAZIHA KHAN

Treasurer: JAMEELA KHAJA, AYLAR ANSARITALESH, KUSH PATEL, and HIRAL PATEL

WebMaster: TAMMY HUYNH, RICHARD PHU, and MICHAEL PHAM

So, right NOW there are:
TWO vacancies for President,
TWO vacancies for Vice President,
ONE vacancy for Secretary,
ONE vacancy for Treasurer,
TWO vacancies for Public Relations,
TWO vacancies now open for the Historian,
and TWO vacancies for the Webmaster.


So sign up fast, remember: first come first serve, and if you do not meet the requirements by the elections, you will not be able to give your speech.
