  Pre-Pharmacy Association 2009-2010 Officers

NammuPresident: Nammu Ganesan Email: UofHPPA@gmail.com Contact Concerning: Meetings (not attendance), Speakers, Volunteer Opportunities.

Bio: Hello, my name is Nammu Ganesan, and I am currently a junior at University of Houston. I have a lot of pride for UH. It’s an upcoming university showing a lot of promises. Right now my life is centered on the campus! I am constantly running from classes, to doing errands, to hanging out with friends, to eating food, to planning events, or just being at the library. My main priorities right now are doing well academically and going to pharmacy school, just as the rest of you, and making sure that PPA has plenty to offer to its members.

If you were there to elect me as president last year, then you already know a lot about me, and how PPA is part of the air I breathe! I want PPA to be an experience where you learn more about what it means to be a pharmacist: coming to aid those in need, becoming a part of the community, and having the courage, strength, and motivation overall to succeed. PPA has something to offer to everyone: volunteer events, games, socials, meetings, information about pharmacists and pharmacy schools, and obviously it provides a place for friendships to flourish. I hope you find a place within PPA for yourself. All the new officers are hard working and are here to hear your suggestions and questions. Do contact us, if there is something of importance that you wish to share.

Looking forward to meeting each and everyone one of you! =)

LeenaVice President: Leena Nguyen Email: UofHPPA@gmail.com Contact Concerning: Volunteer or Club events, Meetings (Not attendance)

Bio: Hello! I’m Leena Nguyen and I am currently a sophomore. I have lived here in Texas for 19 years and I love the big state. Go COOGS! I love music and I especially love going to concerts with friends. If you ever see me around, I’m always with my mp3. On my spare time I love singing, watching T.V., playing games, and sleeping. I love to sleep.

Another great interest of mine is volunteering. I hope this year to keep everyone active in volunteering. And I love to volunteer with friends so don’t be shy! Each and every volunteer event I have been to has been so much fun and I hope to share this love with everyone. I also would like to share what Sarah Suerte said last year because it’s honestly what I believe to do this year: “I want to convert the mindset of volunteering: from “time spent” to “lives changed”, because as future pharmacists we will CHANGE LIVES.” I find this inspiring. If I’m not volunteering or going to concerts then I’m studying in the library. On the weekends, I also love hanging with my friends and family. They get me through the school year and I love them! They complete me.

I hope to see you all in PPA this year! I love meeting new people and don’t worry, I don’t bite. So, if you have any questions about PPA or classes, please feel free to e-mail us.

NephySecretary: Nephy Samuel Email: UofHPPA@gmail.com Contact Concerning: Points, Attendance

Bio:  Hello, my name is Nephy Samuel and I am a junior at the University of Houston. Despite growing up in Dallas, I moved to Houston because of University of Houston’s diverse campus, and excellent pharmacy program. Although juggling Organic Chemistry, NSCS, Alpha Phi Omega, family and friends, all while being active in PPA, may seem difficult at times, it’s who I am and I enjoy doing it. Whenever I do find a time to breath, I enjoy spending that time catching up on House MD, new movies, and my favorite pastime, sleep.

One of my favorite aspects of PPA, is our service to the community. I love being a helping hand to anyone who is in need. Just remember, that despite how rough things get and how competitive this field may seem, we all are doing this together. So, if you have any questions or just want someone to talk to, I’m always here to lend a helping hand. I hope that this year the PPA can grow not only in service, but as a family as well. I cannot wait to personally meet each one of you in this upcoming year.

BharatTreasurer:Harin Kalyanji Email: UofHPPA@gmail.com  Contact Concerning: Suggestions, or volunteers to help with PPA advertisements/awareness

Bio: Hey everyone! As your PPA Treasurer, I have some exciting plans for the upcoming school year. My primary goal is to get all the members socially active! As a freshman last year, I didn’t know many people at first, but through PPA I made a ton of new friends by attending the meetings, volunteer events, socials, etc. By getting to know more people, I significantly increased my network of peers. Who knows when you’ll need someone?

Now, let me give you some background on my life. I grew up in Milwaukee, WI and moved to Houston 3 years ago. I am in my second year of Pre-Pharmacy. My hobbies would include having fun, meeting new people, tutoring, and playing pretty much anything (sports, video games, etc..). I usually have a lot of things to juggle, but I find ways to relieve the stress through the recreational center, weekends, even during class! If you see me randomly on campus don’t be afraid to say hi, I usually don’t bite!

PPA itself is a well rounded organization. There is something for everyone, whether you are interested in volunteer work, socializing, or just gathering more information about pharmacy school. This year the other officers and I will do our best to make it a memorable one for everyone! I will personally try to promote social interaction and cougar pride as much as possible! GO COOGS!!

AshleyHistorian: Ashley Dvorkin-Miller Email: UofHPPA@gmail.com Contact Concerning: Yahoo/Google Group, Pictures

Bio: Hi everyone! My name is Ashley Dvorkin-Miller and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Houston. I moved to Houston five years ago from Canada. Almost immediately after moving here I fell in love with the city. I love many aspects of Houston including its fast paced lifestyle.

My family and friends are extremely important to me. When I was eight years old, my family had a house fire which burnt our whole house to the ground. We lost everything in our house, however, we were safe. From this experience I learned that material goods can be replaced and are insignificant. The people in our world are much more valuable than any material good. I learned to cherish the people around me and help people whenever I can. I believe that hardships/difficulties make us stronger and shape us into who we will become in the future.

PPA is a fantastic organization in which you will grow to love once you choose to get involved.  You can meet many new people and form lasting friendships. You can also help others when they are in need of assistance through volunteering. PPA is an organization that revolves around people. We need you! We need you to be involved. Support PPA by coming to the meetings and volunteering at events. As an officer of PPA, I am here to help you. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need anything. I am looking forward to meeting everyone this year.

BharatPublic Relations: Bharat Makanji  Email: UofHPPA@gmail.com Contact Concerning: Suggestions, or volunteers to help with PPA advertisements/awareness

Bio: Hello, my name is Bharat Makanji and I am currently a sophomore.  I was born and raised in Southwest Houston although I live on campus during the school year.  One of my biggest hobbies is following current events and learning about different political ideologies.  Although my political views might not be considered mainstream, I enjoy engaging in constructive and intellectual debate.  When I’m not studying, I like to go to the gym.  Playing basketball and working out helps me relieve stress, so if you ever want to play ball, let me know!

Being an active member of PPA my first year, I have become passionate for this organization.  My main goal for the upcoming year is to continue to improve on the assistance us officers provide to you, the constituents.  Don’t be afraid to e-mail me if you have any questions regarding PPA or if you need help finding your way around the university.

If you have any questions/comments/suggestions about the website, I’d love to hear them so feel free to contact me about them!

A little bit about me, I’ve lived in and around Houston all my life and even though the weather here can get funky, I love the people in Houston! They are awesome!
